This is a problem for many of us. You think to yourself, If I could just HIDE THE WIRES, maybe it would look OK.
Well, you have come to the right place. I KNOW YOUR PAIN. Hi, my name is Eric. As a guy who loves my flat screen, I was in the same boat. I searched the Internet for a solution. I couldn't find anything that would work that wasn't custom and cost thousands of dollars. I didn't want to spend more money hiding wires than I did for my TV.
So, here is what I did. I went to my basement workshop and looked at the old mantel shelf that was under the TV. I figured out how to build a new one that would look great (better than the original, I think) and allow me to hide my wires. I did it by making the top of the mantel removable. Then, I designed the mantel shelf to have openings that allowed me route all the wires, easily. See the openings in the picture below.
Now this all happened a couple of years ago. Since then, friends and family would comment on how CLEAN LOOKING the install of the TV was over the fireplace. They said, it looked so much better that what the guy down the street did or the brother in-law. They would say, how did you hide the wires? When I showed them, they would ask me to build one for them. I am decent at woodworking, but let's be honest, I am no Norm Abram. So, I politely declined. But, they kept asking and offering money. I thought maybe there are people out there who I could help. The original one I made in my basement is shown above. You can see it works great on Brick.

For a few seconds I thought, if I had a better workshop with some great new power tools, maybe I could build these. But then I thought better. If I am going to make these mantels, they need to work great, but they also need to look fantastic. That's when I found Mt. Vernon Mantels. They are a small company located right here in central Ohio and they have been building high quality mantels for many years. I showed the guys there, who are really craftsman, what I made at home. No, they didn't laugh. We worked out some fine details and a couple of prototypes later, we had the Hidden Wire Mantel. They really do look fantastic and I have to say, they look much better than my original.
So, if you are looking for an economical way to hide those ugly wires from your TV and improve the look of your fireplace mantel at the same time, I think you will like my product. Take a look around the website and look at our products. I have a gallery that shows a lot of pictures, an install page with detailed instructions and I even made a video. Yes that is really me.
